Can i become a residential architect with just a CAD certificate?

I am interested in going into the field of residential architecture, and i was wondering if i could just recieve a one year CAD Certificate that my school offers, do an intership, and pass the board. Or do i really have to spend more years in school for a bs degree. I am already familiar with Cad since high school, and have always been able to draw and understand difficult building blueprints and diagrams. help from anyone in this field would be nice.
