How to make a sign light up for a concert?

I'm going to a concert in a few weeks and my friends and I really want to make a sign that will light up. We've seen it done before. Either on a board or using pipes. Obviously it can't be huge or super heavy because we have to carry it there. We just need a idea of how to make it, and keep it powered throughout the concert.
